Dry Skin: Skin Care

"Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself" -Coco Chanel

El Nino is quickly approaching the San Diego area and my skin is beginning to feel it. Our weather is still at a 80-100 degree stand still and it's been drying out my already super dry skin. It also rained earlier in the week for about a day and a half with 60 degree weather and my skin didn't like the drastic change of the flip-flopping atmosphere. This last week I decided to take a break from wearing makeup because I wanted to give my skin a rest while changing up my skincare routine to help calm my angry skin.

Dry Skin: Skin Care

1. Panasonic Nano Facial Steamer - $179
One of my favorite skin care practices is using a steamer. Steamers are meant to open your pores in aide of releasing dirt, oil, makeup, and other toxins that your skin attains throughout the day. I start off by taking my makeup off with a facial wipe, such as the, Neutrogena Remover Cleansing Towelettes. I then use my steamer for 3-6 minutes depending on how my skin is feeling throughout the day.

Budget Friendly Tip (BFT): Steamers can be expensive but everyone one should be able to enjoy the benefits of steaming. Growing up my favorite way to steam was getting a big popcorn bowl from the kitchen, fill up with hot water about half way, get a thick towel and drape over your head while sitting over the bowl. Make sure you don't let the steam out and make sure you don't accidentally dip your head in the hot water.

2. Fresh SUGAR Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy/ Fresh SUGAR Treatment- $25-35.
I love doing lip treatments when the weather starts to change because when I get dry lips it becomes cracky and they hurt really bad. I always start off with a lip scrub, like Lush Cosmetics Bubble Gum Lip Scrub. Using a lip scrub gets the dry layer of skin off so your lips are fresh and smooth. Moisturizing your lips is important and I have found that FRESH's Nourishing Lip Balm and Lip Treatment helps keep my lips smooth and moisturized all throughout the day and night.

BFT: One of my favorite budget friendly tips is to use sugar as a lip scrub and coconut oil as a lip balm. I know, weird combination but it's super effective. Mix a little bit of coconut oil with sugar and then use a tooth brush in small circular motions to scrub your lips. Rinse, and then dab a little bit of coconut oil to keep your lips soft and moisturized.

3. Dr. Brandt PreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator ($58)// Clairasonic Mia 1 Sonic Skin Cleansing System ($99).
My First experience with Dr. Brandt's products was in my IPSY Glam Bag. I have fallen in love with several exfoliators over the years but Dr. Brandt stood out to me. It's important to exfoliate once or twice a week to help rid your skin, no matter the skin type, of dead skin. The combination of the steamer and exfoliating will leave your skin renewed, refreshed, and smooth. On the nights that I am not exfoliating, I like to use my Clairasonic Mia 1 with Cetaphil's Gentle Skin Cleanser. Cetaphil's cleanser is very gentle to my sensitive skin and removes all toxins to the skin, the clairasonic helps massage the skin and opens pores up to get out trapped impurities underneath the skin.

BFT: There are many budget friendly ways you can achieve what Dr. Brandt and the Clairasonic do. If you want to make your own exfoliant you can achieve that the same way you would a lip scrub or my favorite drugstore exfoliant which is Olay's Out of This Swirled Deep Poor Exfoliator. I have a drawer full of Eco Tools Pure Complexion Facial Sponge's which I use to cleanse my face in the shower. It's silky smooth and almost gel like when wet. It gets the same job done as a clairasonic without breaking your bank.

4. Origins No Puffery Cooling Mask for Puffy Eyes - $26
My eyes have always been my problem spots between my dark circles, sensitive skin, and puffiness. That's why eye cream and cooling eye serum's are such an important part of my skin care routine. After all of the exfoliating your just did, it's time to cool your face off and put some healthy moisture back in to your skin. I love using Origin's No Puffery because it de-puffs, calms redness, brightens, and lifts; leaving your eyes look refreshed like you just get 8 hours of peaceful sleeping in.

BFT: I still use my BF trick because it's one of my favorite beauty hacks. Have tired, puffy eyes? Grab two spoons before you go to bed and pop them into the freezer and leave them over night. If you need to hurry up this process then 15 minutes will do. When you're ready, just place the back, rounded part of your spoons onto your under eye area. The cooling affect will calm down those blood vessels and de-puff.

5. Glamglow ThirstyMud Hydrating Treatment - $69
Moisturizing my face is my absolute favorite part of my day. Just the refreshing, cool touch when using a lightweight, dewy moisturizer. Glamglow moisturizes, restores, replenishes,  and calms the skin, which is so important after you've done your exfoliant routine. I moisturize my face twice a day, in the morning before I do my makeup and at night before I go to bed; this is my little secret on how I keep my skin so healthy. That and I drink a lot of water.

BFT: The most effective way to keep your skin hydrated and healthy is drinking water, but I also have another alternative for you and that's my favorite affordable moisturizer. I have been using Garnier's Moisture Rescue Gel Cream for Dry Skin non-stop for the last 3 or 4 years now. I absolutely love how cold and refreshing it is to my sensitive skin. You can pick this product up at any local drugstore and it will get the job done. It retails for $5.99.
